EPA-State Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Projects Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Offers Many Benefits Energy efficiency and other clean energy resources are delivering a host of benefits, including enhanced electric system reliability, moderated natural gas prices, economic development and reduced environmental impacts. Many states are finding that energy efficiency can deliver energy savings at a significantly lower cost than the construction of new energy supply and that renewable energy offers an important opportunity to diversify the energy portfolio. However, there remains tremendous untapped potential for additional cost-effective energy efficiency, clean distributed generation and renewable energy resources across the country. Harnessing these resources is particularly important today, as natural gas prices are expected to remain at or above ...

Regional Renewable Energy Strategy for the South West of England 2003-2010 With foreword from Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Page 2 FOREWORD In our recent Energy White Paper (“Our Energy Future: Creating a Low Carbon Economy”) the Government laid out a new direction for energy policy. A direction which will allow us to meet the challenge of cutting carbon emissions, whilst also providing affordable energy and ensuring reliable energy supplies. We set out a vision for a cleaner, smarter energy system to do this. Renewable energy is at the heart of that vision. I am therefore delighted to see the South West grasping the opportunities that renewable energy provides and integrating its role with other key regional developments. It is clear that the South West has the natural resources to generate significant amounts of power from ...

CEO briefing Innovative financing for sustainability Finance Initiative Renewable energy has to supply a greater share of the world's energy requirements. Renewables confer a number of major benefits compared to other energy pathways - energy security, a stable climate, cleaner air, and new employment opportunities - and the resources are truly vast. It is estimated that the market for clean energy technologies could be worth $1.9 trillion by 2020. The financial sector has a key role to play in developing and promoting this market. Renewable energy is both a solution and a business opportunity. However, there are still some significant barriers to capturing this promise. The most important thing that policymakers can do is create confidence in the long- term future of the renewables market by policies that make "the ...

It might be fun for a camp- ing trip, but you probably would not want to do it every day. But that’s how life was before scien- tists and inventors discovered ways to use energy to make our lives easier. Today, most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels. Coal, oil, and natural gas are all fossil fuels. Over millions of years, the decay of plants, dinosaurs, and other animals was formed into fossil fuels. These fuels lie buried between layers of earth and rock. The only way to get them out is to drill or mine for them.       PDF [72,7 KB]  From [tonto.eia.doe.gov]  Last viewed: 26.09.2006
State Renewable Energy Requirements and Goals: Status Through 2003 by Thomas Petersik As of the end of 2003, 15 States have programs to encourage the development of renewable energy for electricity generation. Of the 17 programs (two States have multiple programs), 9 are renewable portfolio standards (RPS), 4 are renewable energy mandates, and 4 are renewable energy goals. RPS provisions generally require that a specified share of electricity generation or sales come from qualify- ing renewable technologies. Mandates, on the other hand, require the construction of set amounts of new renewable capacity using specified technologies. Goal-based programs are voluntary, and gener- ally the goals can be met with a mix of renewable technologies. As of the end of 2003, 2,004 mega- watts (86 percent) of the 2,335 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity constructed in ...

Renewable resources include hydro (both low head and high head), landfill methane, geothermal generation, manure digesters, wind, solar, biomass, wood and others. The use of these resources can be beneficial to our environment and assist rural economies throughout much of the U.S. Further, NRECA should participate in the development of a national energy policy and pursue appropriate legislation that will: • Provide appropriate funding for research, development and demonstration projects; • Include incentives to fully utilize domestic resources that are available to all segments of the industry on an equitable basis.
